Is it possible to have blinds and insect screens on the same window? It’s a fair question and one we’ve been asked a few times here at Appeal. The short answer is yes, you can have both. In fact, we’d encourage everyone to seriously consider it, especially if you live somewhere with a large insect population.
So, what are the advantages of combining fly screens and window blinds? Let’s take a closer look and see how they can improve your home.
Insect Free Homes
In the past, we’ve written several articles about the energy-saving properties of window blinds, and how insect screens can keep bugs out of your home. This goes without saying, but there’s no reason why you can’t combine all those benefits at once. There is a misconception that an insect screen and blind installation would conflict with one another, but they can be fitted side-by-side without any trouble.
For the homeowner, this means not only do you keep flies, wasps, mosquitos and other uninvited guests out of your house, but you’ll get an exceptional shading solution at the same time. You’ll be able to control the light levels and reduce glare, while effectively managing household temperatures as well. The thermal barrier created by the blinds will help you keep your house warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and the adjacent fly screen won’t impact that. They’ve been designed specifically not to interfere with the airflow.
Upgrading Your House
The other piece of good news is that even with a fly screen and your choice of blind on the same window, it won’t look cluttered. The mesh screens are discreet and almost invisible to the naked eye, it’s very easy to walk past one and not even realise it’s there. They can also be retracted into a neat cassette when not in use.
This will be especially good news for anyone that lives in a waterside property and wants a stylish, modern vibe for their home. Lakes and rivers are breeding grounds for insects, but our mesh screens will ensure they remain outside. And if you combine them with a contemporary set of ULTRA® Smart Blinds, you’ll be able to effectively manage your household light and glare levels at the same time. It can be dazzling when the sun reflects off the surface of the water, but our sophisticated window blinds can help resolve that.
In short, it’s often perfectly possible to place fly screens and blinds on the same window. It also doesn’t need to be an unattractive or overly cluttered installation. If you choose the right ones, you’ll still get a wide range of design options and advantages, and you’ll no longer have to worry about chasing wasps out of your home.
