Now that the weather is finally starting to brighten up, it’s time to start flinging the windows open and letting the air in. It makes homes feel light and breezy and let’s face it, nobody likes a stuffy living room. As much as we enjoy the warmer months though, there are always a few unwelcome visitors. If you own a conservatory you’ll know how easy it is for flies to get stuck in them, and nothing spoils a dinner party quite like a couple of angry wasps.
Here at Appeal Home Shading, we have the perfect solution. We’ve got years of expertise in working with window blinds, but we’re also experts at manufacturing bespoke and retractable insect screens.
Modern Fly Screens
Fly screens are commonplace throughout the United States but here in the UK, you don’t see them as often. Our friends across the pond have relied on them for decades and for good reason; they can keep homes free of insects, even in the most humid environments. If a well-fitted mesh screen can protect homes in the Louisiana Bayou from insects, you can be certain they’ll work here too.
Our insect screens are ideal if you want to keep the windows open during the summer. They’re fitted with a ClearVu mesh that will stop any mosquitos from flying in, but it’s also subtle and discreet. Some homeowners are concerned that window screens are an eyesore, but ours are transparent and almost unnoticeable to the naked eye.
They’re also surprisingly tough. The micro-mesh screens are made from PVC-coated fibreglass and are exceptionally resilient. They’ll withstand the elements and are built to last. And when not in use, they retract into discreet cassettes so they’re simple and practical to use. We’d recommend them to anyone that lives in a coast or waterside home, but urban homes will certainly benefit from them as well.
Other Ideas
Aside from installing insect screens, there are a few other things you can do to make your home less inviting to bugs. If you’ve got any cracks in the exterior of your home, we’d recommend sealing them as soon as possible. It makes it harder for insects to get in, will improve your structural stability and reduce draughts as well.
It’s also worth washing your dirty dishes and getting rid of uneaten leftovers quickly. Keep all your food in airtight containers as well. We understand that fruit bowls are eye-catching and make a wonderful centrepiece for your coffee table, but flies will be attracted to them. Besides, putting your fruit in the fridge will not only make it last longer, it (arguably) tastes nicer when chilled.
Make sure your bin is covered and emptied regularly. And lastly, try to keep a tidy and clutter-free house. Piles of unwashed clothes are very attractive to insects; they give them warmth and shelter.
Follow all these tips and you’ll dramatically reduce the number of insects in your home. If you’d like to find out more about our range of insect screens, you can download a free brochure right now.
